The sheriff's office said Ian Whitmer of Newberry called deputies at about 10:30 a.m. EDT Monday and reported a bull in his yard was lifting his 1992 Kawasaki motorcycle and his 2001 Pontiac, The Gainesville (Fla.) Sun reported.

Deputies Jeffrey Monson and Michael Trent arrived at the scene and the bull proceeded to first charge them and then damage their cars while they kept the vehicles between themselves and the bull.

Deputy Perry Koon, who is specially trained for rural services, and bull owner Alfred Zebley arrived and were able to quickly corral the bull into its pen.

The damage caused to the vehicles by the animal was estimated at less than $4,000.

Survey: Britons' bedtimes getting later

CAMBRIDGE, England, April 21 (UPI) -- A British survey suggests the average bedtime for adults in the country has been pushed back by 54 minutes in the past three years.

The Cambridge Weight Plan said its survey of 3,040 adults found the average bedtime of respondents was 11:41 p.m., 54 minutes later than the average 10:47 p.m. indicated by a survey three years ago.

The survey suggests nearly half of Britons don't go to bed until after midnight and one in 10 are still up at 1 a.m.

The organization said the most common reasons cited for lost sleep were work stress, worrying about money and snoring partners.

"We seem to have so few hours to fit everything into that we're eating into our precious sleep time to complete our daily 'to do' list," Anthony Leeds, medical director for the Cambridge Weight Plan, said. "But that means many are not getting their recommended 7 1/2 hours of sleep a night, and while they may seem OK now, it might catch up on them when they least expect it."
