MAPLEWOOD, Minn., April 13 (UPI) -- More than a dozen people protested at an Old Country Buffet restaurant in Minnesota after a woman said she was asked to leave while breastfeeding her child.
Beth Morton of St. Paul said she was asked to cover up while breastfeeding her baby at the Maplewood restaurant on Easter Sunday and managers eventually asked her and her fiance to leave the eatery, KARE-TV, Minneapolis, reported Tuesday.
Morton and more than a dozen fellow protesters held signs outside of the restaurant Sunday protesting her treatment the previous week. The messages on the signs included "normalize breastfeeding," "nurse in public" and "I don't have to eat in the bathroom, why should they?"
Morton said several participants breastfed their baby during the protest, the broadcaster reported.
Company officials said Morton's breastfeeding was not the issue and the family was asked to leave because her fiance became verbally aggressive and used profanity toward employees.
Morton said a company executive called her with an apology last week, but she did not feel the message was sincere.
