TARPON SPRINGS, Fla., April 6 (UPI) -- A Florida chef said he decided not to serve an octopus with an unusual physical condition -- a moniker-defying ninth leg.

Head chef Emmanuel Psomas of Hellas Restaurant and Bakery in Tarpon Springs said he was preparing to steam the octopus, which came from the Gulf of Mexico, when he noticed the mollusk was sporting a spare tentacle, WFTS-TV, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla., reported.

"I was in disbelief. I kept on counting the legs and then recounting them. I carried the octopus through the restaurant and asked others, are you seeing what I am seeing?" Psomas said.

He said he decided not to serve the "novem-pus" and is instead storing it in his refrigerator until he can come up with a method of preserving and displaying the carcass.

"My customers are just tickled by this. They can not believe it," the chef said.

Students make massive 'Starry Night'

SMITHFIELD, Utah, April 6 (UPI) -- A Utah high school teacher said he and his students have created a 72-foot-by-90-foot replica of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" from breakfast cereal.

Doyle Geddes, a humanities teacher at Sky View High School in Smithfield, said he and more than 150 of his students created the replica, which is 30 times the size of Vincent Van Gogh's masterpiece, from more than two tons of blue, purple, red, green, yellow and brown breakfast cereals in the school's gym, The (Logan, Utah) Herald Journal, reported.

"To the best of our knowledge it is the largest recreation of a Van Gogh work of art in any medium," Geddes said at the Saturday unveiling of the artwork. "I think it's better than we even expected or dreamed that it could be."

Geddes said the group began work on the project about a week ago, drawing grids on plastic sheets to keep the lines of the depiction accurate.

"It's as close to the original as it can possibly be," the teacher said.

Big British bunny is world record setter

WORCHESTER, England, April 6 (UPI) -- A British woman's big bunny has captured the world record by weighing in at 49 pounds and measuring 4 feet 3 inches long, Guinness World Records says.

"It's amazing that a rabbit could grow to more than 4 feet long," The Mirror quoted a Guinness spokesman as saying.

Darius the rabbit, a member of the Continental Giant breed, is just 13 months old, the British newspaper said. Each day, it eats at least a dozen carrots, three apples, a cabbage, two bowls of special rabbit mix and some hay.

Its owner, Annette Edwards, 59, says she thinks Darius will keep getting bigger during the next six months.

Darius comes from a long line of huge hares -- its mother Alice and grandmother Amy were previous record holders, The Guardian said. Darius took the size record from a step-brother, Ralph, owned by a woman in Uckfield.

"I measured him this weekend and realized he is far larger than any of his predecessors," Edwards said. "He is so gentle and I wonder if this has helped him grow bigger than the rest. He runs around all the time, so the combination of food and exercise has worked out for him.

"People ask what my secret is, but there really isn't one, other than just treating them well and looking after them."

Unicyclists aim to cross every NYC bridge

NEW YORK, April 6 (UPI) -- A group of New York unicycle enthusiasts said they have reached bridge No. 50 on their quest to unicycle across all of the city's 2,078 bridges.

Rob Hickman, a member of the group, said the attempt began in October with the Williamsburg Bridge and most recently involved trips across the Cropsey and Stillwell avenue bridges last week, the New York Post reported.

"A lot of people don't like bicyclists and bicycle politics, but everyone loves a unicycle," Hickman said. "We even went down Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg where the Hasidic community rallied to have bike lanes removed, and they loved us there."

Keith Nelson, another member of the group, said he has been documenting the unicyclists' progress on his blog, Unicycle NYC Bridge Tour.

"Many of these are architectural masterpieces and some, well, aren't," Nelson said. "But we take a photo at the middle of every bridge and try not to pick favorites."
