WINDERMERE, Fla., April 1 (UPI) -- A Texas woman said the 2-foot-tall animal spotted hopping around a Florida town is her daughter's escaped wallaby.

Brenda Aldrich of Houston said her daughter was visiting the town of Windermere earlier this month with her wallaby, a kangaroo-like marsupial native to Australia, and the pet slipped out of its harness during a stroll, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported Thursday.

Windermere residents said the wallaby has been spotted at various locations around town, including the local elementary school and Lake Bessie.
