CLEVELAND, April 1 (UPI) -- An Ohio woman said one of her twins was not ready to be born when the other emerged 12 weeks early and remained in the womb for another week.

Jennifer Renz, 26, of North Canton, Ohio, said her daughter, Grace, was born 12 weeks premature March 22 at 1 pound and 3 ounces, WEWS-TV, Cleveland, reported Thursday.

However, doctors at University Hospitals in Cleveland said the labor stopped when it was the second twin's turn.

"When the first twin delivered, the uterus just stopped," said obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Michael Gyves said. "Her cervix started to close."

Doctors said they decided it would be best to let the pregnancy continue to progress and expected the child to be born within a couple days. However, they said an entire week passed before baby Noah was born at 2 pounds, 15 ounces.

The parents said the children will remain in the hospital for a while but are progressing well.

"The whole time I wanted them to have separate identities and be separate people and now they have their own separate and special days," Renz said.
