PRINCETON, N.J., March 30 (UPI) -- Officials with Princeton University's Wilson College in New Jersey say more than 1,200 mugs have been taken from the facility's dining hall.

Laurie Hebditch, the college administrator, said the school started with 1,300 mugs in September but the number dwindled to only 64 by March 10, when students were given 48 hours to return the mugs and other dining hall supplies free from consequences, The Daily Princetonian reported Tuesday.

Hebditch said Monday she does not know how many of the mugs have been returned since the e-mail but students caught with the mugs during fire inspections from now on will face disciplinary action.

Stu Orefice, the director of Dining Services, said the harsh winter may have been partially to blame for the higher than usual amount of missing mugs.

"One factor that may have resulted in the increased removal of mugs may be the colder winter season, perhaps with an increased interest in having mugs on hand for warm beverages," he said.
