BUDAPEST, Hungary, March 19 (UPI) -- Gordon Bajnai, Hungary's outgoing interim prime minister, says he won't spend the token 6-cent salary he was paid for working a year in office.

Bajnai, a businessman, agreed to accept one forint, or half a cent, a month for his work as leader of the crisis-management government, the MTI news agency reported.

In an interview with the Blikk tabloid, Bajnai said he would keep the check as a memento of his service. He said his decision to forgo a regular salary was a show of support for other public servants who had to accept pay cuts during the recession.

Bajnai said the reforms he ushered in had the country on track to adopt the euro currency by 2014 unless his successors change course.
