CHICHESTER, England, March 18 (UPI) -- British police said a 5-year-old boy took his father's Mitsubishi Shogun 4X4 for a 4-mile joyride that ended with a low-speed crash into a brick wall.

Police said they received calls at about 7 a.m. Thursday from concerned motorists who spotted the pint-sized driver and the boy's panicked Chichester, England, father, who said he woke up to find his son and the vehicle missing, The Sun reported Thursday.

Investigators said the boy, whose name was not released, traveled 4 miles in the sport-utility vehicle without exceeding 10 mph. The vehicle came to a stop after striking a brick wall in the neighboring village of Lavant and a motorist who followed the boy called emergency responders and waited with the child.

The boy was taken to a hospital as a precaution but was not injured, police said. Officers received reports of two parked cars and a passing vehicle being struck by the Shogun, but no injuries were reported.

Police said they do not intend to take any action against the boy or his father.
