Hubby keeps house, wife takes roof
MVUTJINI, Swaziland, March 16 (UPI) -- A Swaziland woman said she followed through with a court order allowing her to remove all of her possessions from her ex-husband's house, including the roof.
Busisiwe Ginindza of Mvutjini said she and local police officers went to the house Thursday and executed the order from Manzini Magistrate's Court to remove everything she owned from the home she used to share with his husband, The Swazi Observer reported.
Ginindza, whose repossessed belongings include the roof of the house, said her husband kicked her out in July and would not allow her to take any of her belongings, despite the fact that most of the items in the house were purchased with her money.
"I left my 14-year old son with him, but lately he has not been able to go to school because his father locked him out of the house," Ginindza said of her estranged husband, Sikelela Dlamini.
Truck lands nose-first on mailbox posts
DAYTON, Ohio, March 16 (UPI) -- Police in Ohio said alcohol may have been involved in a "Dukes of Hazzard"-style crash that ended with a truck impaled nose-down on a pair of mailboxes.
Butler Township Sgt. Todd Stanley said the 2001 Ford Ranger struck a Montgomery County driveway embankment while traveling south on Peters Pike Sunday and became airborne, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reported.
"They went airborne sort of like 'The Dukes of Hazzard,'" he said.
He said the truck, which lost its left tires during the crash, landed nose-down on a pair of metal mailbox posts.
"Those mailboxes held that truck up like it was nothing," Stanley said. "It was a horrific accident."
Stanley said the driver, a 24-year-old man, was thrown from the vehicle during the crash and was taken to Miami Valley hospital with a back injury and minor cuts and bruises. A 55-year-old man riding in the vehicle was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
"Alcohol may be a factor," Stanley said.
Stolen car crashes with man on hood
REGINA, Saskatchewan, March 16 (UPI) -- A stolen car smashed into a tree with its owner clinging to the hood Monday in Regina, Saskatchewan, but there were no major injuries, Canadian police said.
Just after 3 a.m., police said a car smashed into a tree and then a utility pole at an intersection. Officers determined an unidentified 47-year-old man trying to leave the scene was the car's owner and that he had jumped on the hood and hung on when two women, 18 and 19, allegedly tried to steal it, the Regina Leader-Post reported.
The two young women were apprehended on foot not far away, the report said.
The car owner said he had been partying with the women in his hotel room four blocks away when he noticed them getting into his car.
He sustained minor injuries after being thrown from the hood.
The two women were arrested for car theft, impaired driving and criminal negligence, police said.
Burglars get nothing in bank break-in
NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- Burglars cut two holes in the roof of a bank and climbed in through heating vents, but nothing was taken from the institution, New York police said.
A police spokesman said the burglars cut two holes in the roof of Sovereign Bank just before 5 p.m. EDT Sunday -- cutting the second hole because the first one was apparently in the wrong location, the New York Daily News reported.
The burglars then climbed through heating vents to a room storing safety deposit boxes but left the bank without taking any money or possessions, the spokesman said.
Police said they did not know how many people were involved in the incident and didn't have any suspects.
