REGINA, Saskatchewan, March 15 (UPI) -- A stolen car smashed into a tree with its owner clinging to the hood Monday in Regina, Saskatchewan, but there were no major injuries, Canadian police said.

Just after 3 a.m., police said a car smashed into a tree and then a utility pole at an intersection. Officers determined an unidentified 47-year-old man trying to leave the scene was the car's owner and that he had jumped on the hood and hung on when two women, 18 and 19, allegedly tried to steal it, the Regina Leader-Post reported.

The car owner said he had been partying with the women in his hotel room four blocks away when he noticed them getting into his car.

He sustained minor injuries after being thrown from the hood.
