The spokesman, whose identity was not reported, said the woman was fined $91 after police officers spotted her allegedly flossing her teeth and looking in her vehicle's rear view mirror, all while she was speeding along on the M4 motorway, The Sun said.

"We've caught women applying lipstick and makeup and men using an electric razor on their way to work," the spokesman said. "But this is the first time we've seen someone flossing their teeth. It's particularly dangerous because you need to use both hands."

The Sun said after being stopped near Newport, South Wales, the driver received a stern warning about careless driving from the officers.

Couple's romance ends with lawsuit

NEW YORK, March 1 (UPI) -- A man alleges in a lawsuit filed in New York that his former fiancee should be required to return a $58,000 engagement ring since their relationship is over.

Roger Adler, 42, alleges in the Manhattan Supreme Court suit his former fiancee, Rena Hope Friedman, accepts marriage proposals from men and then ends the relationships so she can keep the valuable engagement rings, the New York Post said.

Court papers show Adler alleges his former lover was "previously engaged to another male … the engagement ended under similar circumstances... (she) failed to return the engagement ring in the previous matter."

Adler proposed to Friedman, 41, after the couple had been dating for only six weeks. For their engagement, Friedman received the valuable diamond and platinum engagement ring.

Adler alleges Friedman convinced an appraiser to use her name on the appraisal of the 4-carat diamond ring in preparation for selling the expensive item.

Within 12 days of their engagement, the couple's engagement and relationship were over after Friedman voiced opposition to Adler's parents attending their wedding.

"The lies were piled higher and higher," Adler told the Post. "You have no idea."

Rat found on aircraft prompts deplaning

OTTAWA, March 1 (UPI) -- An Air Canada spokeswoman said an airplane was taken out of service and 205 passengers left the aircraft at the gate after a rat was found on board.

The deplaning of passengers from what would have been Air Canada Flight AC888 -- an airline spokesman said there was no evacuation -- came after the rodent was spotted in one of the aircraft's overhead lockers, The Daily Telegraph said.

The aircraft, scheduled for a flight from Ottawa to London, was taken out of service after a pest control team was unable to locate the elusive rodent.

London resident Richard Jones, whose girlfriend had been expected to arrive in London Friday, said passengers learned of the furry stowaway from the captain.

"He said: 'We've got bad news. A giant rat has been seen in the overhead lockers and I need everyone to get off while we try and find it,'" Jones told the Telegraph.

"I've heard some excuses for delays before, but never because a rat has hidden away on a flight. It's incredible," he added.

An airline spokesman said passengers were accommodated on the next flight.

Flight passenger eats winning scratch card

CASTLE DONINGTON, England, March 1 (UPI) -- A spokesman for an Irish airline said a passenger who won nearly $13,620 on a scratch card ate the instant lottery ticket when told he could not cash it in.

Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara said the strange behavior came after staff on board a Thursday flight from Poland to England confirmed the ticket was authentic and could be cashed in once the airplane landed, The Daily Telegraph said.

McNamara said the passenger, whose identity was not reported, wanted to cash in his ticket on the flight, but staff informed him there was not enough available cash on the flight.

"Crew tried to stop the air Gourmet Scratch Card eater by offering him one of our great tasting sandwiches, pizzas or snacks instead, but clearly he had much more expensive tastes," McNamara told the Telegraph.

The winnings will be donated to charity, the newspaper said.
