Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Florida wildlife officials said a loose monkey first spotted last fall was seen traveling through a residential neighborhood in the Tampa Bay area.
Gary Morse, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said the monkey, believed to be a member of the macaque family, was seen Tuesday in the back yard of area resident Susan Sousa, the St. Petersburg Times reported Wednesday.
Sousa told officials the monkey jumped through the trees in her yard before leaping onto a neighbor's roof and disappearing from sight.
The monkey, which was spotted several times during the fall in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, was spotted last week walking on a couple's fence in the city of Seminole.
Morse said officials are keeping appraised of the monkey situation but no officers were dispatched Tuesday because the animal had left the sight of witnesses.
