DICKSON, Tenn., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- A Tennessee man said he knew exactly what to do when he discovered snow-covered bags containing $30,000 -- find the owners.
Barry Stringer, a traveling dental assistant, said he found two green bags partially covered in snow outside a Dickson nursing home after leaving the facility for a call Feb 2, WKRN-TV, Nashville, reported Monday.
"Of course the snow and stuff sort of covered them up so we just stopped and picked the bags up," he said.
Stringer, who makes calls to nursing homes in Tennessee, said he did not open the bags until finding the bank with its name on them, the Bank of Dickson, was closed.
"After I got home, I felt like I should open the bags to see whose stuff it was. We got to looking in there and saw there was cash and a lump sum of money," he said.
The bags contained a $72,000 deposit slip and more than $30,000 cash.
"I knew exactly what I was going to do with money as soon as I found it," he said.
Stringer said he returned it to the Dickson nursing home the next day.
"They all gave me a hug and shook my hand," he said of staff members at the facility.
