VAXJO, Sweden, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A Church of Sweden bishop said he is taking sick leave following a physical confrontation with an employee of his office.
Bishop Sven Thidevall of Vaxjo said he was not injured during the scuffle, which mostly involved pushing and shoving, but he decided to take his sick leave to recuperate from the incident mentally, The Local reported Friday.
"We have a poor psychosocial working environment and have tried to work things out for quite some time. Of course the soul hurts when something like this happens," Thidevall said. "There was no serious physical violence but the situation feels bad. Everyone knows that the office has experienced tension for some time now and of course no one feels good about this."
The diocese said the confrontation is under investigation.
"The incident is extremely regrettable. This is a faith group and of course there are differences of opinion," said Jan-Erik Forsberg, vice-chairman of the diocese committee.
