GLENDALE, Calif., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Animal welfare authorities in Glendale, Calif., said they are trying to catch a free-range chicken frequently spotted wandering into traffic.
Ricky Whitman, spokeswoman for the Pasadena Humane Society, which also services the city of Glendale, said the chicken living behind the electronic billboard at Glendale Community College has been creating unsafe traffic conditions by wandering into traffic at Verdugo Road and Mountain Street, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported Monday.
KTLA said the chicken, which has been living behind the sign for at least two months, was spotted walking into the intersection at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, forcing motorists to swerve to avoid it.
Animal control officials said they can't use tranquilizers to catch the bird because of its small size but they are working on reducing its food supply to slow it down. The officials said they hope to relocate the chicken to a farm after it is captured.
