TAKIMA, Wash., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A Washington state teacher who has been on unpaid leave since she sent a student home with a bag of human feces last year is retiring from the school district.

Apple Valley Elementary School kindergarten teacher Sue Graham, a 31-year veteran of the West Valley school district, submitted a resignation that was accepted Monday night by the West Valley school board, superintendent Peter Ansingh told the Yakima (Wash.) Herald-Republi.

Graham was placed on unpaid leave in May when a student's father complained his 5-year-old son was sent home in April with a bag of feces and a note reading: "This little turd was found on the floor in my room."

Ansingh said the school board also accepted a resignation from Graham's husband, Ron Graham. The Apple Valley fifth-grade teacher will finish the school year before retiring, the superintendant said.
