PONTIAC, Mich., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- A Michigan judge must decide how to deal with the marriage of a businessman who allegedly wed a woman without telling her he already had a wife and children.
Lesley Keith, 37, is seeking an annulment from Eugene Pallisco, 44, and damages for emotional distress, the Detroit Free Press reported Thursday. Pallisco's lawyers say Keith does not need the annulment since there was no marriage and that she knew during the $37,000 ceremony and reception at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn the whole thing was a fake.
Judge Cheryl Matthews in Oakland County Circuit Court has been hearing testimony for weeks. The case will go to trial if Pallisco and Keith cannot agree.
Matthews seems inclined to think the marriage, even if it was not legal, needs some sort of legal closure, the Free Press said.
"It is what it is. An annulment. Period," she said.
The couple said Wednesday they would try discussions with a facilitator in an effort to avoid trial.
