PLYMOUTH, England, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A cat famous for riding the same British bus daily for four years was killed crossing the road trying to catch its usual bus, authorities said.

Casper the cat died from injuries after a hit-and-run near the home it shared with Susan Finden, 65, in Plymouth, Devon, the Daily Mail reported Monday.

"Many people knew Casper, who loved everyone. He enjoyed the bus journeys. Sadly a motorist hit him and did not stop," Finden said.

Finden, a care worker, rescued the cat in 2002 and named it Casper because she said the cat had a habit of vanishing like a ghost.

"But then some of the drivers told me he had been catching the bus. I couldn't believe it at first, but it explained a lot. He loved people and we have a bus stop right outside our house so that must be how he got started," Finden said.

"He'd queue up in line good as gold -- it'd be 'person, person, person, cat, person, person.' He had no road sense whatsoever but he loved people."
