ATHERTON, Calif., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- California police say a bag of human bones was lost a public park after a search-and-rescue demonstration.

An Atherton police official said the bag was mistakenly left behind at Holbrook-Palmer Park after Monday's demonstration, which involved a search-and-rescue dog sniffing out the bones, The Atherton Daily News reported Friday.

Organizers returned to the park Tuesday but didn't locate the bag.

"They were probably just thrown away," the police official said.
