NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Passengers and rescuers from last year's landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in New York gathered Friday morning for a reunion.

Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, the pilot who landed the plane with all 155 passengers safe, was greeted with applause when he arrived in uniform for the breakfast Friday, the New York Post reported Friday.

Sullenberger and others who were aboard the plane thanked rescuers at the breakfast.

"We're so happy to have so much to celebrate," Sullenberger said.

Passengers Laura Zych and Ben Bostic of Charlotte, N.C., said they began dating about six months after the famous landing.

"We don't take anything for granted. We celebrated the one-month anniversary, two, three, four. We've been waiting for this day," Zych said.

Events planned for the rest of the day included a toast at 3:31 p.m., the moment of impact on Jan. 15, 2009, and a return to the water where the plane touched down.
