SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A California woman said she was shocked and terrified when a man repossessed her car with her 2-year-old son inside without identifying himself.
Isabel Leuvano of San Jose said after she parked her car in her ex-husband's driveway about 7 p.m. Tuesday a man jumped in and quickly drove away, San Jose's KTVU-TV reported Friday.
"All we do is hear the car door shut and the car just take off over the curb and just hit the right corner and speed off," said Leuvano. "And I'm freaking out hysterical that this is my son and he's in the car. They just stole my car and the baby."
Police said they discovered the car had been repossessed about 30 minutes after beginning their search. They said Alberto Luna, the owner of a used-car dealership, had repossessed the vehicle and the boy was reunited with his mother at the dealership's office.
"The child was OK," San Jose Police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said. "We were able to take the mom to the dealership and reunite the mother and the child."
Lopez said Luna repossessed the car because Leuvano was late with a payment. He said it did not appear that any laws had been broken.
"What we would have liked to have seen is a little bit more professionalism; a little more courtesy," he said.
