BALTIMORE, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Police Department's Mounted Unit said 7-Eleven was granted rights to rename one of its horses Slurpee after making a $5,000 donation to the unit.

The unit said the purebred Percheron formerly known as Blackie will now sport the name Slurpee on his saddle after 7-Eleven made the donation to help keep the 121-year-old unit in operation, The Baltimore Sun reported Thursday.

The donation came as part of a police fundraiser that resulted in $90,000 of fresh funds being poured into the endangered Mounted Unit.

Members of the unit said they don't intend to take the corporate sponsorship any further than the name.

"We talked about putting ads on the sides of police cars and saying, 'This car chase brought to you by Nabisco,'" joked Sgt. John Ambrose, head of the Mounted Unit.

Ambrose said Slurpee will make his public debut with his new name Friday morning at the grand opening of a new 7-Eleven location downtown.
