NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Police in New York said a bank robber dropped his bag of dye-stained cash while running from police and it was taken by an unidentified man.
Investigators said the robber, whose name was not released, claimed to be armed when he robbed a TD Bank branch at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, the New York Post reported Monday.
A dye pack inserted with the money exploded while the man was running from a uniformed police officer who was just outside of the bank when the suspect emerged, detectives said.
Police said they caught up to the suspect and arrested him. However, witnesses said a second man grabbed the dropped bag of dye-stained cash and ran off before police could return for the loot.
