STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- The Swedish Language Council said it has added 30 new words to the official list, including words translating to "vaginal corona" and "gender contrary."
The council, part of the Swedish Institute of Language and Folklore said slidkrans, which translates to "vaginal corona," was added after the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education lobbied for it to replace the old term, modomshinna, which translates to "hymen," The Local reported Thursday.
"I am both happy and proud. Words affect how we think and it therefore felt important to replace the old and antiquated expression 'hymen,'" said Asa Regner, general secretary of the sexuality education group.
Other words added by the council include konskontrar, or "gender contrary," for something that goes outside of characteristics associated with a gender, such as a female being given a male's name.
The council also added svininfluensa, translating to "swine flu," and fuldeling, a word to describe online file sharing.
