NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Two New York state friends said they are marking their 32nd year of exchanging the same Hallmark birthday card.
Shirley Dahlgren and Bonnie Wiles, both 61, who attended Briarcliff High School in Briarcliff Manor together, said they began sending the same card back and forth as a joke in 1977 and it has since become a cherished and important part of both of their lives, The (White Plains, N.Y.) Journal News reported Wednesday.
"It's just one of those things, it's more precious than all of the possessions I have," said Wiles, of Queensbury N.Y. "It's just a history of two grown women who have shared their lives. It's a true token of a long-lasting friendship."
The women said they began adding pages to the card when it became too covered in writing from their notes. They said they have made copies of the card just in case the worst happens.
"We're afraid we're going to lose it," Wiles said. "We would be absolutely crushed if anything happened to this card."
