NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The American Dairy Association & Dairy Council unveiled a 487-gallon mug of hot chocolate Wednesday in New York that is believed to be the world's largest.

The World's Largest Mug of Hot Chocolate, unveiled Wednesday in Bryant Park, weighs more than 4,180 pounds before the addition of marshmallows and heats the traditional winter beverage to an optimal temperature of 120 degrees, the dairy group said in a release.

Officials said they expected to distribute 6,000 to 10,000 free cups of cocoa Wednesday.

The American Dairy Association & Dairy Council said the event was organized to remind people of the importance of drinking milk for Vitamin D during the winter months.
