Models strip down in cold Ohio city

AKRON, Ohio, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A New York photographer visiting Ohio said his project, photos of nude people in public settings, was enhanced by the cold, snowy weather.

Spencer Tunick, 42, renowned for his nude photographs, snapped shots of Roger Marble, 64, of Brimfield Township, Ohio, and Jen Maurer of Akron, whose age was not reported, walking sans clothing Monday in snowy downtown Akron, the Akron Beacon Journal reported. It was 18 degrees Fahrenheit.

"This is a giant snow globe," Tunick said, admiring the winter weather Monday.

He said photos of nude people in industrial cities create "a beautiful contrast of nature against the concrete world."

Kansas City coach gives cash to stranger

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Kansas City Chiefs Coach Todd Haley approached a stranger at a bus stop and gave him a late Christmas present -- a stack of $20s, the recipient said.

Brian Mondaine said he was waiting for a bus the day after Christmas in Kansas City and he recognized a man approaching him as Haley, who Mondaine said he had not previously met, KCTV-Kansas City, Mo., reported.

"He handed me a stack of 20s said 'Merry Christmas,'" Mondaine said.

"Thanks coach," Mondaine said he told Haley.

"It's touching," he said of the encounter. "I just want to say thank you."

The gift recipient said he would more than happy to return Haley's favor.

"If he ever needs help as a water boy, I'm here," Mondaine said.

Baby born at hospital curbside

NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A New York woman said she made it to the hospital while in labor with her baby boy, but the impatient infant entered the world before she could get inside.

Pamela Akukuma, 27, said she and her husband, Richard Amaa, drove to Jacobi Medical Center as quickly as they could Sunday but the baby refused to let his mom make it any further than the hospital sidewalk before making his break for freedom, the New York Daily News reported.

"I never imagine the baby would come so quickly," Akukuma said. "When I realized I would not make it into the hospital, I was very afraid."

Andrea O'Neill, the head nurse on duty Sunday, rushed outside to assist Akukuma.

"I just tried to comfort her," said O'Neill, who noted the delivery was her first. "I just told her, 'The baby will be fine. You will be fine.'"

Akukuma said baby Richard was born at a healthy 8 pounds, 2 ounces.

"We just sort of looked at each other -- we were so happy, the baby was fine," O'Neill said.

'Asparamancer' predicts bad year for Brown

PERSHORE, England, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A British woman who claims to predict the future by tossing asparagus says the coming year will see Prime Minister Gordon Brown lose his position.

Jemima Packington of Pershore, England, predicted the economy will continue to struggle in 2010, England will burn out of the World Cup in the first or second round, a member of the royal family will become engaged and another will die or be involved in a health scare, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Packington describes herself as Britain's first "asparamancer," for her technique of predicting the future by throwing asparagus in the air and analyzing it upon landing.

"Readings vary. Sometimes it will be absolutely instantaneous and other times it takes a little bit of interpretation," she said. "Some leap out at you and others take a little bit longer."

Packington made headlines in 2008 by being the only one of four hired mystics to predict correctly the order of housemate evictions during that year's season of Britain's "Big Brother" reality series.
