CHICAGO, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A 13-year-old suburban Chicago girl says despite drawing rave reviews for her fashion blog, most people in her hometown are unaware of her national fame.
The Chicago Tribune said Wednesday young Tavi Gevinson has nearly 30,000 readers daily for her online blog Style Rookie and has been lauded as an influential force of the fashion world.
"She's only 13, but Tavi Gevinson has the fashion world enraptured," said Harper's Bazaar, which has published work from the young writer.
Yet to her mother, Berit Engen, and other people in her hometown, the popular blogger is still just a growing teen.
"Seriously, no one around here has any idea who I am," Gevinson said.
"There are two stories here," Engen said of her daughter. "The 13-year-old who lives in our house, and the 13-year-old who is being taken very seriously in this world of fashion."
The Tribune said Gevinson's popularity has prompted requests for reality shows and books, offers the teen has declined.
