PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. tech experts say Santa Claus has been keeping up with trends, communicating with kids via Twitter, text messages and Google Maps.

Scott Steinberg, publisher of Portland, Ore., based DigitalTrends.com, said the jolly old elf allows today's kids to text message their wish lists and keep up with the preparations for Christmas on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, The Miami Herald reported Thursday.

"The reality is that times change, people change, so does the North Pole," Steinberg said.

"Kids see parents on their BlackBerrys. Kids see parents texting in the middle of church,'' he said. "It's not a stretch for them to think that Santa's got a BlackBerry or a netbook in his sleigh.''

Steinberg said kids can also follow Santa's Christmas Eve trip on Google Maps, which teamed with the North American Aerospace Defense Command to bring its decades-old tradition of tracking Santa online.
