SPRING HILL, Fla., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A Florida woman said her cat is recovering after it ran away, was hit by a car and spent days dragging itself home with two broken hind legs.

Tracie Steger of Spring Hill said her cat, Giggle-Blizzard, failed to come inside for dinner Nov. 15 and she and a team of neighborhood children were unable to locate the kitty during days of searching and distributing fliers, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Wednesday.

Steger said she was further worried when a neighbor girl told her she had seen a car run over a cat with Giggle-Blizzard's coloring but there were no confirmed sightings until she heard a strange noise coming from her porch Thanksgiving night.

Steger said Giggle-Blizzard had been hit by a car and its back legs were smashed. She said the cat is doing much better after two surgeries, costing a total $3,000.

"If you've lost a pet -- do not give up!" Steger said. "If they know they are loved ... it may be just enough to bring them home to you."
