DENVER, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Salvation Army officials in Denver said anonymous donors dropped three rare gold coins, valued between $1,200 and $1,700, into the charity's kettles.

Capt. Ron McKinney, Metro Denver City Coordinator for The Salvation Army, said the coins were dropped in kettles in various Denver locations during the past week, KMGH-TV, Denver, reported Thursday.

McKinney said a 1902 $20 Liberty gold coin, was dropped Dec. 3 in a Salvation Army kettle at a Sam's Club and another gold coin was dropped into a kettle Monday outside the Pavilions Corner Bakery. He said the third coin, a 1979 South African Krugerrand, was dropped Tuesday into the same kettle at the Corner Bakery.

"On some of the coldest kettle days we've had this season we received not just one great gift from anonymous donors, but three," McKinney said."We just want to thank them for the generous gifts."
