COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A Utah woman said authorities rescued her dog from a storm drain more than three weeks after she apparently jumped a fence and ran away.

Susan Garr of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, said her 4-year-old Australian shepherd mix, Millie, had lost about a third of her body weight when she was discovered in a storm drain Sunday, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday.

Garr said Millie escaped by jumping over a 6-foot-tall fence surrounding her yard more than three weeks ago.

"We imagine she was in there (the drain) most of that time," Cottonwood Heights police spokesman Beau Babka said.

Garr said Millie's vet gave her a clean bill of health and prescribed medication for any possible worm infections she may have incurred during her ordeal.
