DES MOINES, Iowa, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Authorities in Iowa said they are trying to solve the mystery of who left a tin can holding $10,000 inside a Kmart store.
Kmart officials said the red tin can was first noticed at the Des Moines store's customer service counter Nov. 29 and remained unmolested until an employee finally opened it Thursday, discovering the cache of cash inside, The Des Moines Register reported Tuesday.
The store manager and an employee counted the money, finding $10,000, and the can of bills was turned over to police Friday. Store manager Bill Gier said Kmart corporate officials instructed him not to comment. The Register said the chain's media relations department did not return phone calls.
