KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- A spokesman for AMC Entertainment of Missouri said the company has decided to ban patrons from bringing outside food into its cinemas.

Justin Scott, spokesman for the Kansas City company, said local AMC theaters began testing the "no outside food" rule in October and it is now being expanded nationwide, The Kansas City Star reported Tuesday.

"We had always allowed guests to bring in whatever they want even though people didn't think we did," Scott said.

"Not allowing guests to bring (snacks) in is consistent with many other entertainment venues, whether concerts, live theater, sporting events," he said.

He did not comment on the company's reasons for the move, but the theater chain has recently experienced declining revenue and drops in concession sales, the Star reported.
