No sweet deal yet for Candyland mansion

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Eight months on the Los Angeles market hasn't yielded a buyer for the $150 million estate of Candy Spelling, widow of television producer Aaron Spelling.

But Spelling's sales team says she isn't in any hurry to consider a price reduction her 56,500-square-foot mansion sitting on 4.7 acres in the city's Holmby Hills district, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

"You either sell it right away or it could take two or three years," said real estate professional Jeffrey Hyland, part of the three-person sales team working on the Spelling property. "The sellers know this. There is not a sense of urgency."

Spelling's W-shaped French chateau officially is named "the Manor," but it picked up the less classy moniker "Candyland" in some circles, the Times said. The largest home in Los Angeles County is slightly larger than the White House, information included in an online tour of the estate indicates.

Spelling, 64, says she wants to downsize to a 16,500-square-foot condo next year.

Hyland says he shows the Manor about once a month -- but only to screened and pre-qualified parties.

"For us," he said, "it's not the quantity; it's the quality."
