CHICAGO, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- More than a dozen Chicago middle school students are to appear in court later this month to face charges stemming from a food fight at their school.
Sisters Cassandra and Aliyah Russell, both eighth-graders, were among the students arrested, handcuffed and finger-printed last week after a food fight at Perspectives Charter Middle School.
"We were suspended, went to jail and now have to go to court," Aliyah, 14, told ABC News.
The sisters and their alleged accomplices were charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and were suspended from school for three days, the girls' mother, Erica Russell, said.
"Who does that? Lock children up for throwing a carrot, a biscuit, milk, Jello?" she said. "Who does that?"
In a statement, the school said the police arrested those responsible for the food fight to protect the school and its students from harm.
