Brooklynite to run for Idaho Senate seat

NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A New York City man, appalled no Democrats could be found to run against Republican U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo of Idaho six years ago, says he's in this time.

William Bryk, who lives in the Bay Ridge section of New York's Brooklyn borough, told Wednesday's New York Daily News he's tossing his hat into the 2010 senatorial election in Idaho, even though he's never been further west than Buffalo, N.Y.

"Six years ago, the Democratic Party of Idaho failed to nominate a candidate," Bryk said told the newspaper, saying it was a disgrace the unopposed Crapo garnered 99 percent of the vote in 2004.

"Given that it's as easy as filling out a form and writing a check, I thought this was odd, even reprehensible," said Bryk, a frequent unsuccessful candidate for various local offices. "Either the Idaho Democratic Party finds someone to run, or else my name will be on the ballot."

"Because Idaho election law doesn't require candidates to collect signatures to get on the ballot, we always get a lot of characters running in the primaries," Idaho Democratic Party Executive Director Jim Hansen told the Daily News, adding, "We'll definitely find somebody."
