HENDERSON, Nev., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Officials and locals in Henderson, Nev., said a Google Maps error incorrectly identifies the area where their town should be as "Rochester."
Ross Wekesser, a mapping technician for the Henderson Public Works Department, said both Google Maps and Google Earth identify Henderson as Rochester, which is the name of a ghost town outside of Reno, the Las Vegas Sun reported Monday.
"I have no idea how it got there or why it's there, and I know of nothing that it could be," Wekesser said of the error.
Google spokeswoman Elaine Filadelfo said the company is aware of the error and is working to have it corrected. She said she does not know the specific origins of the mistake, as the data on Google Maps and Google Earth are drawn from a number of public and private sources.
