Bank robbing golfer pleads guilty
MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A Minnesota man arrested after heading from a bank robbery to a golf course has pleaded guilty.
Frazier Eugene Turner, 50, of St. Paul pleaded guilty to bank robbery Monday in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.
Turner admitted robbing a TCF Bank in a Cub Foods store July 27 near St. Paul's Lake Phalen.
He showed a bank teller a golf shoe cleat wrapped in a newspaper to resemble a gun and handed over a note demanding money. He left the bank with $600, spent $30 on gas for his car and was arrested in the Phalen Golf Course parking lot.
Police said the remaining $570 was in his golf bag. He could face up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced.

Congressman admits illegal airport parking
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A U.S. congressman illegally parked his Ford Explorer at the Charlotte (N.C.) Douglas International Airport, a spokesman has confirmed.
Brock McCleary, a spokesman for Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., told the Gaston (N.C.) Gazette the congressman was pressed for time Sunday afternoon when he left his car straddling the curb in the parking lot.
"He was running late for a flight and there were no available parking spots," McCleary in an e-mail Monday, the newspaper said. "He made a mistake in not leaving the vehicle in a proper parking spot."
The newspaper said McHenry's car had its front tires on the curb, while its back tires were in the driving area of the parking lot, with one of them atop a yellow speed bump.

Ravens players sing for seniors
PARKVILLE, Md., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A quartet of Baltimore Ravens players led by veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason serenaded residents of a suburban retirement community with a karaoke night.
Mason, along with backup quarterback John Beck, tight end Edgar Jones and practice squad wide receiver Justin Harper, sang solo and group numbers Tuesday for the seniors at the Oak Crest Retirement Community in Parkville, The Baltimore Sun reported.
"I don't have an 'A' game when it comes to singing," Mason said. "So I go out and try to bring my F-plus game. I enjoy it. We did a few stops last year, and I was glad to come back here again this year."
The seniors, many of whom came dressed in Ravens apparel, welcomed Mason's admittedly "off-key" singing.
"Last year when he came out we had a ball," resident Ellie Witty said. "It's wonderful."

$100 prize for 'Bug Race' winner
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Great Bug Race, a fundraiser for Palm Beach Atlantic University, offers a $100 prize for the "coach" with the fastest insect, organizers said.
Fred Browning, an assistant physics professor at the West Palm Beach, Fla., university, said cockroaches, ants, beetles and grasshoppers are allowed to race in six-bug heats around a pair of concentric circles, but flying insects and bugs likely to attack the others are not permitted, the Palm Beach Post reported.
Ray Waldner, a biology professor who founded the event in 1982 as a science club fundraiser, said the race was so popular that the school has staged it every year since.
"This event just sort of blossomed because it's so unique," he said. "And a little gross."
"Sometimes they run straight and sometimes they run backwards," Browning said of the racing bugs. "And sometimes they just crawl up people's pants."
