MIAMI, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A Florida man arrested for practicing law without a license returned to court to attempt to resume arguing a case for his client.

Rufus Hawkins, 24, who was arrested in an Orange County courtroom Friday after making an argument on behalf of petty theft suspect Talunda Pringle, returned to court Tuesday for Pringle's trial, WFTV, Miami, reported Wednesday.

Hawkins, who refers to himself as an "attorney in fact," denied practicing law without a license after his arrest.

"I never represented myself as a lawyer in the world," he said.

However, licensed attorney Mike Gibson said multiple documents Hawkins has filed in court will make it difficult for him to convince a judge he was not practicing law.

Pringle told a judge Tuesday that Hawkins was still "talking on my behalf."

"He cannot talk on your behalf, he is not a licensed attorney in the state of Florida," the judge said.

The trial has been rescheduled.
