SPENCER MOUNTAIN, N.C., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Officials in Gaston County, N.C., said no candidates have registered to seek the mayoral or town council positions in a town with 29 registered voters.

County Elections Supervisor Frances Pinion said there will be no names on the ballot in the town of Spencer Mountain for the November election, leaving the office of the mayor and three town council seats in question, the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Monday.

"Hopefully we'll have some write-ins," she said.

Pinion said there was a similar situation in the town in 2007 when the only four people who turned up to vote wrote in their own names on the ballots to take over the mayor's post and the town council.
