SAND SPRINGS, Okla., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma woman said her 52-year-old Maytag washer and dryer set is bound for the company's museum in Michigan.

Jane Thompson of Sand Springs said the only problem she ever had with the pink appliances was the recent broken dryer latch that led the company to discover the age of the appliances and offer to exchange them for new models, KOTV, Tulsa, Okla., reported Thursday.

Thompson said she spent three weeks deciding whether to let Maytag have her beloved appliances, which she received as a Mother's Day gift in 1957, for the company's museum in Benton Harbor, Mich.

"I don't think anything will clean like they would," Thompson said.

She said the dryer still worked despite the broken latch as long as something was placed in front of it to hold the door closed.

Maytag said Thompson's washer and dryer will go on display at the museum as a testament to the dependability of the brand.
