IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Some men participating in the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event in Irondequoit, N.Y., said donning women's shoes for the charity walk was no walk in the park.

Matt Coleman, 33, of Webster, N.Y., said the pair of Andrea Jovine pumps he wore for Saturday's walk offered him a rare insight into the physical toll behind certain women's fashions, the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle reported Sunday.

"I don't know how women do this all day," Coleman said. "When you get a 240-pound guy in these, they can hurt."

Irondequoit resident Alan Bowden, 25, added to his female footwear with a dress courtesy of a lost wager with his office workers.

"I told the people in my office, 'If you raise $200, I'll do (the walk) in a dress,'" the law firm worker said. "They ended up raising $375."

The Democrat and Chronicle said Saturday's event at a high school running track serves as a fundraiser for Alternatives for Battered Women, which operates a shelter for abused women.
