NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Some New York parents are sharply criticizing city stores for selling revealing and sexually suggestive Halloween costumes for young girls.
The parents said items for sale at Party City outlets and other stores include a "High Seas Hottie" pirate costume small enough to fit 8-year-olds, a revealing sailor outfit for girls as young as 4, a "Convict Cutie" woman-in-chains costume in sizes for young girls and a "Devil Grrrl" costume for 10- to 14-year-olds featuring red fishnet stockings, the New York Post reported Monday.
"If girls get used to dressing like this, they might want to become a whore after Halloween," said Malinda Martinez, 33, a New York mother of a 6-year-old girl. "They're far too grown up for kids," she said of the costumes.
The Post said a Party City manager told a reporter who asked about the costumes to leave the store.
