ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Alaskan police said a report of a mutilated body on an office building rooftop led them to a severed spinal column and some ribs believed to belong to a moose.

Police Lt. Dave Parker said a maintenance worker at the Anchorage office building discovered the animal remains at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and described the find to authorities as a mutilated body with a severed head, the Anchorage Daily News reported Thursday.

Parker said it was unclear whether the carcass, which investigators said was on the rooftop for some time before it was discovered, was placed atop the building as a prank or if someone had attempted to skin a moose on the roof.

Maintenance staff the building are responsible for removing the remains, Parker said.
