Man proposes with bus stop ad

CHICAGO, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A Chicago man who said he wanted his marriage proposal to be special rented ad space to pop the question at his intended's bus stop.

Eric Anderson, 25, said he was considering his proposal options when he noticed the Sheridan Road and Surf Street bus shelter used almost every day by his girlfriend, Rachel Clark, 28, had available ad space, the Chicago Tribune reported.

"At first I was afraid it wouldn't be very romantic -- it's a bus station," he said. "But I mentioned it to her sister and my cousin, and they were both excited about it. I had two women who liked it, so I went with it."

Anderson said he contacted JCDecaux, the company that manages Chicago's bus shelters, and officials agreed to rent him the ad space for one week at a discounted rate, the newspaper reported.

"Rachel! I love you! Let's be a team forever! Will you marry me? XOXO, Eric," the message read.

"I was lost in my own little world," Clark said, recalling her experience at the bus stop. "I marched up to the bus stop, and he was standing behind it. ... He's like, 'Read the sign!' I started giggling and laughing going, 'Yes, yes!'"

Aggressive elk loses antler privileges

ESTES PARK, Colo., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A Colorado wildlife official said he drugged an aggressive elk and sawed off its antlers to prevent it from posing a danger to itself or others.

Rick Spowardt with the Colorado Division of Wildlife said this has been the worst year for aggressive elk in the city of Estes Park since he joined the agency 23 years ago. He said he received a call from a golf course manager last week about a bull elk chasing people away from the green of a hole, KUSA-TV, Denver, reported.

"The night before he (the bull elk) gored a car," Spowardt said.

Spowardt said he used a method of dealing with aggressive elk favored by wildlife officers at Yellowstone National Park.

"And that was to drug immobilize the elk and saw off its antlers," Spowardt said.

The officer, who used tranquilizer darts to put the elk down during the sawing, said he will only saw off an elk's antlers if he feels there is no other choice.

"I felt sorry for him, but I think it was preferable than him injuring somebody or worse," Spowardt said.

Woman injured while corralling emus

MOSSY HEAD, Fla., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A Florida woman was airlifted to a hospital with injuries she sustained from an emu's claw while trying to corral the large flightless bird.

Tom Jones, a Mossy Head, Fla., firefighter paramedic, said the woman was injured Sunday afternoon while attempting to round up a group of emus for transport to an animal shelter, the Panama City (Fla.) Herald reported.

Jones said the woman was flown to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and discharged Sunday evening.

The paramedic said he would not classify the incident as an animal attack.

"I don't think it was being vicious or anything. I think it was just acting like an animal is supposed to act," Jones said. "It just happens that she got in the way of a claw."

Police: Man hid pot in mouth during stop

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man who attempted to conceal marijuana in his mouth at a traffic stop dribbled the drug from his lips while talking to officers.

Investigators said officers could see Michael Nimmons, 37, taking the cannabis from a cigarette box and shoving it into his mouth during the early Tuesday traffic stop in Boynton Beach, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Police said marijuana fell from Nimmons' mouth while he was speaking to the officers. He was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence, resisting without violence and driving without a license.
