MOSSY HEAD, Fla., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A Florida woman was airlifted to a hospital with injuries sustained from an emu's claw while trying to corral the large flightless bird.

Tom Jones, a Mossy Head, Fla., firefighter paramedic, said the woman was injured Sunday afternoon while attempting to corral a group of emus for transport to an animal shelter, the Panama City (Fla.) Herald reported Tuesday.

Jones said the woman was flown to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and released Sunday evening.

The paramedic said he would not classify the incident as an animal attack.

"I don't think it was being vicious or anything. I think it was just acting like an animal is supposed to act," Jones said. "It just happens that she got in the way of a claw."
