Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
BRIGHTON, N.Y., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Bosses at an Upstate New York restaurant said they will be proud to put up a picture of a baby girl who was born in the eatery's parking lot.
Anthony Daniele, co-owner of Mario's Italian Steakhouse and Catering in Brighton, said the business is saving a spot on its Wall of Fame for a picture of Maya Denise Herbert, who was born just before 4 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot, the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle reported Monday.
Family physician Bess Herbert, 34, and her husband Kevin, 41, said they were on their way to Rochester General Hospital early Sunday morning but decided to meet the Brighton Volunteer Ambulance crew in the Mario's parking lot because the baby was coming quickly.
"It was scary and exciting, and you had to be very cautious. It's outside of the hospital. It's very different when it's not in a very controlled environment," Bess Herbert said.
Maya Denise Herbert was born healthy, weighting 7 1/2 pounds and measuring 20 inches.
Daniele said he sent a family dinner to the hospital Sunday night for the proud parents and their older children, Erik, 5, and Leeah, 4.
"I think it's a great story. I know the staff is very excited. We're looking forward to getting a nice baby picture for the Wall of Fame," he said.
