PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- The city council in Providence, R.I., has voted to ban children under age 18 from performing as strippers, plugging a gap in state law.
The proposed ordinance was introduced after a Providence Journal investigation found current state and city laws only ban people under 18 from participating in adult photos and films, but not from live performances involving nudity. The city ordinance would ban those under 18 from working in adult entertainment businesses such as adult video stores and strip clubs, the Journal reported Friday.
The measure is scheduled for a second council vote this month before it is sent to Mayor David Cicilline for signing into law.
