Pranksters use statues to fight Trump

EDINBURGH, Scotland, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Protesters angered by developer Donald Trump's planned golf resort in Scotland decorated statues Thursday with golf clubs and anti-Trump slogans.

The Greyfriars Bobby statue in Edinburgh, a tribute to the faithful Skye terrier that spent years at its master's grave, sported a wig dressed in Trump's signature style, The Scotsman reported.

James Clerk Maxwell, the great physicist, Scottish philosopher David Hume and poet Robert Fergusson wore Donald Trump masks. In Aberdeen, statues of Robert Burns, Queen Victoria and her consort, Prince Albert, were targeted.

The Menie Liberation Front took credit for the action, saying it hoped to show how Trump plans to "walk over Scotland" with his resort.

The resort, to be built at Balmedie on the east coast near St. Andrew's, is backed by the Scottish government, which expects it will create jobs. But many local residents are unhappy with the project.

The Aberdeenshire Council is to vote next week on whether residents can be forced to move to make way for the resort.

Sarah Malone, executive vice president of Trump International Golf Links Scotland, called the statue decoration a "publicity stunt" that was "perpetrated by a handful of individuals."
